House Extension & New Garage,
The Cross, Calver
PROJECTS: ALL
Private client
Sitting in the centre of Calver’s conservation area and the Peak District National Park, The Cross is a two bedroom cottage, dating from the seventeenth century. Its owners required more spacious and contemporary accommodation. Following a sensitively handled negotiation planning permission was secured to replace the existing single storey rear extension with a larger two storey one.
Renovation of the existing cottage includes the removal of render to reveal the original limestone walls. The simple traditional form of the new extension with limestone walls, slate roof and timber joinery, sits sympathetically alongside the cottage. Internally this provides a spacious modern kitchen overlooking the garden and a generous first floor master bedroom suite.
The new double garage has been carefully designed with reference to traditional local outbuildings so as to blend seamlessly into its context. It includes a home office in the roof space complete with a central window in the gable end offering magnificent views towards Froggatt Edge.
Work started on site summer 2018.
