Birley Fire Station, Sheffield
PROJECTS: ALL
South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue
New Fire station on the edge of the greenbelt to the south east of Sheffield. The building accommodates four fire appliances along with training and dormitory facilities for the firefighters. To minimize its visual impact on the view into the greenbelt the appliance bay shelters under a sloping green roof. The sustainable design includes such features as an extensive array of photovoltaic cells and solar panels.
Stephen Hill Architects were appointed initially as feasibility architects by SYFR. Following a competitive tender SHA was appointed as the architect to the Design & Build contractor, BAM, to secure planning consent and develop the scheme design.
