House Extension,
Mayfield, Calver
PROJECTS: ALL
Private client
Located on a wonderful elevated site in Calver’s conservation area, Mayfield dates from the 1930s. Its external treatment with fake half timbering at first floor level is out of keeping with its Peak District village setting. Although a relatively large four bed property, the surprisingly small ground floor rooms do not benefit from the attractive surrounding gardens or exploit the wonderful views. The client required the existing house to be upgraded to improve its appearance and to provide more contemporary living accommodation.
In the proposed scheme the ground floor is remodelled to provide generous open plan living space and a new single storey extension to the rear accommodating a new family room. Expansive areas of glazing open the interior to the garden and the beautiful landscape views beyond. Externally the building is given a crafted contemporary aesthetic, using a palette of materials which will weather well and sit comfortably in their conservation area setting. Planning permission was awarded in Summer 2018, with work on site expected to commence in 2019.
