High Storrs School extension & refurbishment
PROJECTS: ALL
Sheffield Local Education Partnership (LEP)
Whilst working for BDP Stephen led the project team for the refurbishment and extension of High Storrs, a Grade II listed secondary school. Extensions were added to either end of the retained 1930s building.
The north wing accommodates teaching, drama and dining facilities, linked to the existing building by a first floor bridge. New sports facilities are provided in the south wing. In the existing building the classrooms, assembly hall and circulation were sensitively refurbished in close dialogue with the planning authority’s heritage officer. Pupils from the building’s earliest days were consulted about the original decoration.
The completed project was cited as an exemplar in English Heritage’s publication, “Refurbishing Historic School Buildings”.
