Forge Valley School
PROJECTS: ALL
Sheffield Local Education Partnership (LEP)
Working together at previous practice BDP, Stephen and Ian, designed the new large Forge Valley School. This scheme brought together two existing secondary schools, Wisewood & Myers Grove, on the Myers Grove site.
Located in the green belt, the design had to respond to both its landscape setting and allow the existing school to stay operational throughout the build. The scheme comprises two separate buildings; a two storey sports block built to Sport England standards and a four storey school.
The sinuous curved form of the new school was generated by following the existing embankment on the site. A central atrium running through all levels of the school is its communal heart. This space is top lit by striking north lights. These form a distinctive roofline clearly visible from the surrounding areas and marking this important community facility.
